Skincare Routine - sensitiv skin
Share
Do you have skin that easily becomes red, tight, irritated, or reacts to new products? You're not alone. Sensitive skin is common, but with a simple and tailored skincare routine, you can help strengthen the skin barrier and reduce discomfort over time.
What is sensitive skin?
Sensitive skin is not a skin type, but a skin condition. It can be characterised by skin that reacts more easily than usual to external factors or certain ingredients.
Common signs may include:
- Redness
- Tightness
- Stinging or tingling
- Dryness
- Itching
- Skin that reacts easily to new products
Possible causes include a weakened skin barrier, genetic factors, skin conditions, or external influences such as weather, stress, and unsuitable skincare.
A simple routine is often best
When your skin is sensitive, it can be tempting to try lots of different products in the hope that something will help. However, a simpler approach is often better.
A gentle and uncomplicated routine gives the skin time to recover and strengthen its barrier.
Here is an example of a skincare routine using products from Sothys:
Step 1: Gentle cleansing
For example: Comfort Cleansing Milk and Comfort Lotion (toner)
A gentle cleansing milk that removes impurities while leaving the skin soft and comfortable without drying it out.
Step 2: Gentle exfoliation
For example: Biological Skin Peeling and Desquacream
Gentle exfoliation can help remove dead skin cells and create a smoother skin surface. This should only be done 1–2 times a week.
Step 3: Soothing mask
For example: Nutri-Soothing Mask
A soothing mask can provide extra hydration and help calm sensitive skin. Use 1–2 times a week.
Step 4: Serum
For example: Soothing SOS Serum
A serum with ingredients that help strengthen the skin barrier and provide hydration.
Step 5: Moisturiser or night cream
For example: Soothing Velvet Cream or Soothing Melt-In Fluid as a daytime moisturiser, or Noctuelle Renovative Night Cream
A moisturiser helps keep the skin soft, support the skin barrier, and retain moisture throughout the day.
A good night cream provides moisture and nourishment while you sleep and can replace your regular moisturiser in the evening.
Step 6: Sunscreen
For example: Skinvisible Transparent Sense SPF 50
Sensitive skin also needs protection from UV rays every morning.
All of these products are suitable for sensitive skin, but remember that everyone's skin is unique and your products should be chosen according to your individual needs. For personalised guidance, book a skin consultation or send me a message.

Ingredients that often work well for sensitive skin
No ingredient is suitable for absolutely everyone, but many people with sensitive skin do well with products containing ingredients such as:
- Glycerin
- Hyaluronic acid
- Panthenol (vitamin B5)
- Ceramides
- Niacinamide (for many, but not everyone)
- Squalane
- Thermal spring water
Choose products specifically developed with sensitive skin in mind, and consider introducing only one new product at a time.
Be careful with
If your skin is irritated or sensitive, it may be helpful to be cautious with:
- Harsh scrubs
- Frequent exfoliation
- Too many active ingredients at once
- Strong acids without professional guidance
- Products your skin has previously reacted to
This does not mean that these ingredients or products are always "bad", but sensitive skin often benefits from a gentler and more considered approach.
